Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University
Today, Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University enjoys the status of being one of the very few universities in the country, devoted especially for the cause of languages and its training.
Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University, situated in Hyderabad, was established on on 2nd December 1985 through an Act of Legislation. It is basically a language university. The University is recognized and funded by the University Grants Commission (UGC).
The University has campuses at Sri Sailam and Rajahmundry. In 1989, the Siddhendra Kalakshetram at Kuchipudi merged with the University. The School of Folk and Tribal Lore was established at Warangal during the year 1994.
The University was founded for the benefit of the Telugu people, residing within the State and outside. As a result, the Sahitya, Sangeetha, Nataka, Nritya and Lalitha Kala Academies, International Telugu Institute and Telugu Bhasha Samithi were merged to form the Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University. The University imparts education in the fields of Language and Literature, History and Culture, Fine Arts and Performing Arts, religion and philosophy of the Telugu speaking people.
Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University has 14 colleges (13 from State Government and one private) of Music and Dance under its affiliation, exclusively for the purpose of examinations.
