The University of Hyderabad was established by an Act of Parliament in the on 2nd October, 1974 as a Central University, Wholly financed by the University Grants Commission. Today, The University of Hyderabad is one of the premier institutions in the field of teaching and research in the country.

The university has also been conferred the five star status by the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of University Grants Commission (UGC). The UGC has also granted it the status of ‘University with Potential for Excellence’, with the help of a high power Committee.
